Big improvements in GCSE results

Students at Ashington Academy were celebrating today after bringing home a set of GCSE results that mark big improvements for our school.

Since joining the North East Learning Trust, everyone has been working incredibly hard to raise standards and make rapid improvements and it is paying off.

Students' results have met and exceeded national standards in many areas with 63% achieving the benchmark qualification of English and maths at grade 4 or higher.

A closer look at the figures reveals that 74% of students achieved this benchmark in English and 72% in maths.

Overall 17% of results were awarded at the very highest grades 9-7 (equivalent to old A and A* ).

Top performers were:

  • Faye Turnbull with five Grade 9s, two Grade 8s a Grade 6.
  • Mya Wilson-Smith with two Grade 9s, six Grade 8s and two Grade 7s.
  • Lucy Conroy with two Grade 9s, three Grade 8s and five Grade 7s.

The results come on the back of a strong set of A level results from the Academy's sixth form, NE6, last week which showed a 9% increase in students achieving three A*-B grades from this time last year.

Congratulations to all our students who worked hard to pass their exams and good luck for your next steps!
