n Thursday we celebrated World Book Day in traditional Ashington Academy style with a range of activities around school.
All of our students received their £1 book token prior to the February half term holiday and are able to use these tokens on the selected World Book Day free books or to put towards a book of their choice until Sunday 23rd March.
Here's a snapshot of what we got up to:
📚 All students had the opportunity to participate in a tutor time quiz with 10 questions on fiction.
⭐ All students also had the opportunity to take part in a quiz at breaktime, involving them guessing which literary characters various staff members had dressed up as.
📚 Short stories were read in each lesson to Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 students throughout the whole day.
⭐We had activities in the Hub at break and lunchtime, and activities in the reading room at lunch for students to participate in.
📚 There was a pop-up reading inspired extracurricular club after school.
⭐We hosted a very special 'reading rewards' lunch in the Bistro for 25 Key Stage 3 students that were nominated by their tutors and teachers for making an excellent effort in their reading this year. We also displayed some beautiful literary artwork created by our very talented Year 12 art students!
What a fabulous day to celebrate the joy that reading brings us!
